As a recent graduate excited to get my feet wet with real-world agency experience in Lambert’s Detroit office, hearing the words “I trust you” from my internship director meant a lot to me. Her words empowered me yet held me accountable because they carried so much weight. Those words were foundational to my experience and helped me to adjust my perspective in such a fast-paced environment. I remember leaving our first weekly touch base feeling prepared to succeed.

What I loved most about the internship (in addition to the bottomless snacks, freedom to break for inspiration and not being micromanaged) was the room I had to grow and make mistakes. My Lambert Detroit family would often pull me aside for a quick touch base to encourage me—even when I was being hard on myself—and those moments helped me to manage expectations.

I am extremely appreciative for the opportunity to grow and learn at Lambert. I have developed a good grasp about the reality of working in the public relations agency setting. Needless to say, my respect and appreciation for agency life has increased now that I understand the work and commitment behind the big “wins.”

Throughout the course of my internship, I was able to assist with event management, media relations and pitching to various media, including podcasts. Being able to hone my writing skills and gain valuable feedback on my work, as well as how to manage my time and resources, will only help me to prosper in my career. My experience at Lambert has made my portfolio and my perspective more diverse and engaging. I have learned so much about myself and about working in the real world.

My most rewarding experience was partnering with BJ’s Wholesale Club (a Lambert client) and Humble Design to decorate a home for a mom of five, who recently transitioned out of a homeless shelter. I cannot explain sufficiently the impact it has had on me.

I especially appreciated teammates Brenda Duong, Becky Olson, Megan Lasley, Tarajah Ramsey, Cierra Mangal, Megan Dunn, Amanda Niswonger, Clare Liening and Sawyer Lipari for their selfless display of teamwork and coaching. All the feedback has shaped me for the better.

Thank you!
