I know I wasn’t alone in finding the thought of working remotely enticing at first. But as the weeks have worn on—now in our eighth week of working from home—the redundancy can make working from home a bit dull. For those of us lucky enough to be able to continue working, it’s important to find ways to make the workday both productive and stimulating. Here are a few tips I’ve found useful in recent weeks.

Keep it Fresh

Start your day by seeing a new face. Connect with a colleague virtually who you might not be able to otherwise. Engaging in a new relationship will help foster new ideas, create opportunities to further collaboration and offer a much-needed sense of human connection. Set a goal to reach out and connect with one new person each week.

Focus on Mental Health

In Michigan, it is hard to know what the weather will entail from one day to the next. When you can, step outside for fresh air, a change of scenery and a view of nature. Focus on your mental health and schedule time during the day to go for a walk, listen to a podcast, work on a puzzle or pick up a coloring book. Keep your body and mind active during and outside of work hours. Adding variety to your day will help you stay motivated and alert.

Master a New Skill

For a change of routine, take this time to attend educational webinars, participate in trainings or practice new skillsets. Professional development is always worth continuing to invest in. There are numerous free online resources and courses available to make the most of your time.

Learn from Your Colleagues

At Lambert, our team members have hosted webinars across various areas of expertise to share resources with internal and external audiences alike. Show your support and attend webinars or host brainstorms to learn from the experts you work alongside. It may spark ideas and lead to new personal and professional opportunities.

Each day will present its own challenges, but it’s important we continue to make the most of this difficult time. From all of us at Lambert, stay healthy and safe.
