Today is National Chili Dog Day, and there’s no better place to celebrate than Detroit—home of the famous coney dog. With hundreds of restaurants in the metro-Detroit area serving up coney dogs, it’s easy to fall in love with Detroit’s version of the chili dog. The coney dog—a hotdog topped with chili, mustard, and onions—is a Detroit staple and undoubtedly a tourist favorite. While the concept is the same as a standard chili dog, each restaurant uses different ingredients to create its signature flavors.
It’s common to find yourself in a debate over which restaurant dishes up the best coney dogs, so for the first time since the COVID-19 pandemic, a few of our team members gathered to go on a tour to try a few popular spots. Team members visit Zeff’s Coney Island, Chili Mustard Onions, and Detroit One Coney Island to try various styles of coney dogs! In addition to trying these mouthwatering coney dogs, we take pride in supporting local businesses and highlighting Detroit’s community.
