Derek DeVries is a digital strategist at Lambert. His areas of expertise include social media marketing, crisis communications, online reputation management, digital branding, web development, and counsel on all things Internet-related.
Derek currently works with clients that include the University Research Corridor (URC), the North American International Auto Show (NAIAS), Greatland Corporation, Ranir, DTE Energy, Blackford Capital, International Automotive Components and Challenge Manufacturing.
Prior to joining Lambert, Derek worked for PR/marketing agencies including 834 Marketing and Design and spent 11 years in higher education providing public relations, social media marketing and communications support for Grand Rapids Community College. In addition to his duties at Lambert, Derek also teaches advertising/public relations part-time at Grand Valley State University (GVSU).
A regular blogger for the Grand Rapids Business Journal on social media marketing, Derek is occasionally interviewed as a digital expert by the West Michigan news media. In addition, Derek also frequently speaks to professional groups across the state, which have included the Original Equipment Suppliers Association, the Michigan Association of Professional Landmen, the Automotive Public Relations Council and the Michigan Association of Bankers.
Derek is a past president of the West Michigan Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America (WMPRSA), and is a professional advisor for the GVSU chapter of the Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA).
Further, Derek is also involved with numerous nonprofits in West Michigan including GiveCamp Grand Rapids, Vicky’s Pet Connection, and serves on the board of Well House, which provides safe and affordable housing to the homeless in Grand Rapids.
Derek holds a bachelor’s and master’s degree in communications from GVSU.
Derek used to throw boomerangs competitively in the United States Boomerang Association.
